 The ride up the Tabeguache Trail to the base of Widowmaker |
COMMENTS: An awesome loop. Great long section of fast singletrack. The loop has a little more climbing and distance than other loops in the Tabeguache, but well worth the effort. Great views all the way back down.
STARTING POINT: From Gand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, which turns into Broadway. Cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, follow the signs to the Colorado National Monument , go approximately 1.5 miles, there will be a large gravel parking lot on the left marked with a BLM sign for the Tabeguache Trail.

RIDE DESCRIPTION: Start at Tabuguache Tralhead parking area and go up the dirt road to the southwest. At mile 0.5 the road turns right up a short steep hill. Continue on the road until you reach the bottom of Widowmaker hill at mile 1.5. You will know the Widomaker when you get to it. If you are part superhero you can ride up the hill, otherwise walk your bike up and continue on the road to the south. Continue straight past the Eagle's Wing cutoff at mile 2.1. You will reach Little Park Road (paved) at mile 2.3. Turn right on Little Park Road and look for a singletrack that cuts off to the right at mile 2.6 (Andy's). Follow the paved road to mile 2.9. There is a parking lot here. Go through the lot and continue on the dirt road. Take the first right fork in the road and then left at the next fork. You will arrive at the top of a great singletrack at mile 4.0. Let the downhill begin. Cross Little park road at mile 6.4. Do not go up or down the paved road, only cross it. Some more singletrack brings you into a broad valley. Continue west across two saddles. The first one is at mile 7.5. After the second saddle, go right (north0 down the ridge. The trail will singletrack back into the valley and you will arrive back at the parking lot (mile 8.8).
