COMMENTS: Difficult out and back ride across salt creek to the beginning of Kokopelli double tract near Rabbit Valley. This is some of the most technical riding of the Kokopelli Trail. STARTING POINT: From Grand Junction, take I-70 west to the Mack Exit (Exit 11), cross under I-70 to the south to the gravel frontage road. The parking area is where the Mack interchange intersects the gravel frontage road. TRAIL TYPE: SINGLE TRACK 90%, DOUBLETRACK 10%
APPROXIMATE RIDE TIME: 2-3 hours DIFFICULTY: Advanced with many technical sections of singletrack.
RIDE DESCRIPTION: Head West on the access road out of the Mack lot. Begin climbing Troy Built singletrack at mile 1 and take the signed Kokopelli trail at 2.3 miles. Portage down the first 20 foot rocky switchback. Cross the Salt Creek bridge and hike-a-bike some of the next short hill. Parallel the rails until another portage that takes you north and away from the train tunnel (3.6 mile marker). singletrackart climbing. The first 1/2 miles is extremely rocky and rather steep but the majority of the last section can be ridden out to the doubletrack of Kokopelli (4.6 mile). Its recommended to take the doubletrack east to a view point over looking Salt Creek (5.4 mile). Return the 5.4 miles via the singletrack to the Mack lot. MAP OF RIDE: [HIGH RESOLUTION MAP]
